Status Quo's Rick Parfitt hospitalised with suspected heart attack
His condition has been described as serious.
Status Quo’s Rick Parfitt has suffered a suspected heart attack hours after performing live in Turkey.
The 67-year-old took ill in the early hours of Wednesday morning following Quo’s gig at Expo 2016 in Antalya and his condition has been described as “serious” at Aspendos Anadolu Hospital.
Despite his ill health, Rick has “has already demanded his customary cup of tea with two sugars and a sweetener” in intensive care.
Dr Levent Bülent Tuncer told Turkey's Anadolu Agency: “(Rick) regained consciousness, but his life is still at risk. We are closely following his condition.”
Simon Porter, the band’s manager said, “No further comment will be made at this stage until the completion of the next round of tests and assessments to be made over the next few days. We would ask you to respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
The band’s charity show at Rock On Windermere this Saturday (18th June) to help the Cumbria Flood Appeal will still go ahead with Freddie Edwards, the son of Quo bassist John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, standing in for Rick.
According to a statement from the band, it’s likely Freddie will remain with the band to honour their touring commitments up to their Sunday 3rd July show at Gröna Lund Tivoli, in Stockholm, Sweden.
Everyone at Planet Rock wishes Rick well and a speedy recovery.
