Springsteen Darkness Reissue Bigger Than Expected

After nearly two years of waiting Bruce Sprinsgteen has unveiled details about his Darkness On The Edge Of Town reissue – and it’s simply immense.

A full two CDs of unreleased material will be issued as a standalone rarities album called The Promise. These 21 rarities include outtake, alternate versions and entirely unheard new songs that were discarded originally. The songs have been mixed by Springsteen's long-time collaborator Bob Clearmountain. According to long-time manager/producer Jon Landau, "There isn't a weak card in this deck. 'The Promise' is simply a great listening experience."

Then there is the real gem – pretty much a must for Springsteen collectors.

The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Story is a 3CD / 3DVD set that includes not just the remastered edition of the Darkness album plus The Promise, but three DVDs comprising an extensive documentary about the making of the album, a full concert recorded in Houston in 1978 and another two hours of film footage.

The Deluxe Package comprises over six hours of film and more than two hours of audio across 3 CDs and 3 DVDs. The media contents are packaged within an 80-page notebook containing facsimiles from Springsteen's original notebooks from the recording sessions, which include alternate lyrics, song ideas, recording details, and personal notes in addition to a new essay by Springsteen and never-before-seen photographs.

Both editions are released on 15 November, and for Springsteen enthusiasts this is something of a holy grail. You can find out more about the release HERE.
