Spinal Tap are reuniting in 2019!
The band that single-handedly changed the face of rock music forever, Spinal Tap, are reforming in 2019.
A decade on from their last triumphant live shows, which included Glastonbury 2009 and a fabled headline show at London’s Wembley Arena, David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) will reunite at a 35th anniversary screening of This Is Spinal Tap at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.
As well as attending the screening at the Manhattan festival in late April/early May, the trailblazing trio will turn it up to 11 when they treat lucky attendees to a “special musical performance”.
They will also be joined by This is Spinal Tap director, co-writer and star Rob Reiner in conversation at the event.
“Spinal Tap proves there is definitely a fine line between stupid and clever,” says Reiner.
This Is Spinal Tap is one of two screenings announced for the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival today alongside the Ben Stiller directed Reality Bites, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
“From the heavy metal bands of the ‘80s to Generation X in the early ‘90s, This Is Spinal Tap and Reality Bites didn’t just capture the spirit of their respective times — they helped define them,” said Paula Weinstein, EVP of Tribeca Enterprises.
"We're excited to bring these two films back to the big screen for existing fans and also to introduce them to new audiences."
Spinal Tap released three studio albums in their glittering career, including most recently 2009’s ‘Back from the Dead.’
Derek Smalls released his critically lauded solo album ‘Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing)’ back in April via Twanky Records/BMG.
