Spike claims he was fired from The Quireboys by letter
The band are continuing as five-piece

Spike has released his first statement following his shock exit from The Quireboys.
Quireboys fans around the globe were left flabbergasted this afternoon (29th March) when the band revealed they were continuing as a five-piece without their singer, founder and sole constant member, Spike.
Together with a black-and-white photo of the new 10-legged version of the band, they wrote: “The Quireboys have parted company with Spike and will continue as a 5 piece with all other current members.”
54-year-old Spike has now commented on his departure and said he was ousted from The Quireboys by letter.
"Just to clarify, I have received a letter from 3 of MY band members informing me that my services are no longer required to sing or perform with them,” Spike wrote.
"I will release an official statement shortly but for now, my sincere apologies go out to you all and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all my fans who are supporting me through this difficult time. Many of you I have known for years and consider my friends. Thank you for your love and support.
"Rest assured I will see you at the bar very soon.
"The Quireboys founder, only original member and singer, God bless, Spike x"
Guitarist Guy Griffin is now the longest serving member of The Quireboys having joined the band in 1989, and alongside Spike he’s the only Quireboy to have appeared on all of their studio albums.
The other four members of The Quireboys, Keith Weir (keyboards, piano), Paul Guerin (guitar), Pip Mailing (drums) and Nick Mailing (bass) all joined this millennium.
The Quireboys performed two sets on the Monsters of Rock Cruise from Miami to the Caribbean and back in February with Guy Griffin on vocal duties. You can check out footage here:
