Smashing Pumpkins Announce New Reissues
Expect a series of expanded classic albums, a new compilation, unreleased material and a new album
In a landmark new deal with their former record label, EMI, the Smashing Pumpkins will reissue the albums Gish, Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot as expanded remastered editions towards the end of the year. The deal is unusual because the band will determine what they release and when, rather than the label setting the terms.
"After nine to ten years of negotiating, we have finally secured the rights to all the unreleased material in the Pumpkins' archives," said frontman Billy Corgan. "What we've arranged to do with EMI is create a digital box set. And the great thing about the rights that we've secured is that we have the ability to put out any of the unreleased stuff, any time we want, any way we want. This allows us a ton of flexibility."
In 2012 we'll get new versions of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the 1996 five-disc box set The Aeroplane Flies High and 1998's Adore.
Then in 2013 we'll get Machina/The Machines of God and Machina II: The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music entirely and "in the proper order," Corgan said. This will also coincide with a new best of compilation.
And if that wasn't enough, Corgan also revealed that the band would record brand new album Oceania, "an album within an album," as part of their ongoing 44-song project Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Ten new songs are expected to be released in September and a new song called "Owata" will be released for free online next week before the band moves to record Oceania.
