Sgt Pepper Is Most Valuable Album Sleeve
A rare copy of the Beatles classic is valued at $100,000
The Telegraph reports that an adapted version of the 1967 record sleeve which features the faces of Capitol Record executives in place of the various celebrities and personalities on the original has been valued at around £70,000 by Record Collector Magazine.
The alternate sleeve was produced towards the end of 1967 to celebrate the success of the album. Only around 100 copies were made, and only three are in the hands of collectors.
The new list of the top ten most valuable records includes four other Beatles albums. A rare numbered and embossed version of the White Album is runner up in the list as only 10 copies were made.
Ian Shirley, editor of the Rare Record Price Guide 2012, who compiled the list, said: "While pristine records and inserts are vital to securing a top price, the numbered sleeve is the main attraction. The hunger to collect low numbers remains undiminished amongst Beatles fans."
