Scottish Town Immortalises Marillion Classic

A new revamped Market Square in Galashiels now has added 'Kayleigh'

Classic Rock Magazine reports that Galashiels' newly revamped Market Square will be reopened on 17 July and that lyrics to Marillion's 1985 hit single, 'Kayleigh', have been engraved into paving stones in honour of the town's connection to the song.

Back in April, when the plans were announced, former frontman Fish described the tribute as "really touching."

He said: "Galashiels was where I started singing. I did my first gig there. I came down to Gala to my girlfriend’s flat and she was pushing me to become a singer. She stayed in the halls of residence at the College of Textiles and I used to go down there and spend the night. The line ‘dancing in stilettos in the snow’ was about coming back from the college hall.”

Fish will be on hand to unveil the work on 17 July.
