The metal pioneers bring this year's Donington bash to an end
It was muddy, wet and, at least initially, pretty damn cold but this year's Download Festival ended in fireworks and a feeling that adversity had been well and truly overcome.
One of the most memorable Donington festivals for many years, this year's Download featured some genuinely unforgettable highlights, including that closing Sabbath set which proved many doubters wrong and thrilled fans who had been waiting to see the recovering Tony Iommi in action.
Elsewhere across the weekend there were some typically impressive sets from the likes of Anthrax, Slash, Kyuss Lives and Saxon while Tenacious D drew an enormous crowd for their Jim Marshall Stage set on Saturday, and everyone seemed to be having a mud-caked ball throughout.
There was some disappointment on Friday when some traffic problems of biblical proportions prevented Europe from playing their set but it was a small gripe.
