Rush and Heart make it into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Fans' pleas finally heard.
Rush fans have been campaigning for years and their pleas have finally been answered – Rush are to be inducted into the US Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
The band has been eligible since 1999 and, despite repeated calls for the band to be recognised, they were overlooked year after year. Now, Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson will be honoured at the ceremony in Los Angeles next April. Geddy told Rolling Stone.com, "It's a terrific honour and we'll show up smiling. It made my mom happy, so that's worth it." Speaking about the support from Rush fans, he said, "It was a cause they championed. I'm very relieved for them and we share this honour with them, for sure."
The Wilson sisters from Heart also spoke to Rolling Stone about their induction. Ann said, "Some people have an idea of what the shape of rock & roll is supposed to look like. We're not really it. Personally, that's why I think it's taken quite a while . . . We're always travelling and out there doing it. It can start to feel like you're a tree falling in the forest, but nobody notices. So this kind of acknowledgement is really sweet."
Late blues legend Albert King will also be recognised in the latest round of Rock n Roll Hall of fame inductees.
