Rolling Stones Glasto Rumours... Again

The annual \"Stones To Play Glastonbury\" rumour mill has cranked into gear

Published 31st Jan 2011

In what is becoming a firm annual tradition on the festival rumour mill, this weekend saw the first of what is sure to be many Rolling Stones At Glastonbury stories after a website, for some reason, seemed to suggest that the Stones would be at Pilton Farm in June.

Gibson.com picked up on the story that a (probably innocuous) posting of the Rolling Stones tongue and lips logo on the website Pilton.com caused a flutter of rumours to spread around the internet on Saturday.

The band have never played at Glastonbury and last year Ronnie Wood told reporters  "I'd love to play Glastonbury. I’m always up for the festivals. As far as the Stones are concerned we haven’t had a get-together for three years but it’s high time." Before that they had been rumoured for the headline slot every year for about 10 years.

Whatever the case, we may have a little while to wait before any headliners are confirmed. On Thursday organiser Emily Eavis confirmed on her Twitter page that "Third headliner just confirmed, we will announce in spring."
