Rolling Stones exhibition poster banned

Regulators reject ad from appearing on London’s Underground and Bus Stops.

Deemed inappropriate by Exterion Media and Clear Channel, the poster features the band’s legendary tongue logo on top of a woman’s underwear. The band were told that the logo would need to be moved up to the woman’s belly button before it could be used on London’s transport network.

The ad was designed to promote The Stones’ first major international exhibition 'Exhibitionism', which opens to the public in April next year at London's prestigious Saatchi Gallery.

The exhibition will feature over five hundred original Stones artefacts taking over nine themed galleries spread across two floors, offering a unique insight into the band.

In response to the decision regarding the poster, a spokesperson for the band said: “We are dumbfounded and perplexed at this rather silly decision. Perhaps the fact that it’s the Rolling Stones and controversy seems to follow them everywhere.”

A spokesperson for Clear Channel, who regulate adverts for bus shelters, said: “When we saw the artwork we suggested to the client that it may not be approved in it’s current form and they removed the artwork, shifting the mouth slightly further up the body. This decision was reached quickly and amicably.” Exterion Media, who are responsible for London Underground advertising, declined to comment.

The campaign is now running with the edited version of the poster (pictured below).

Tickets for 'Exhibitionism' go on sale at 9am on Friday 10 July 2015 via planetrock.com/tickets!
