Deep Purple have confirmed plans to release their much-anticipated new studio album in early 2013. They have spent the past few months in the studio, penning new material and recording with the help of Canadian producer Bob Ezrin. Ezrin is famed for his previous work with Alice Cooper, Kiss and Pink Floyd.

Bassist Roger Glover told Russian website ITAR-TASS that 14 songs have been completed, and 11 or 12 will make the final cut on the album. This will be the band's first original studio release since 2005's "Rapture of the Deep".

Glover also confirmed that the as-yet untitled album is looking likely to be released in February, and can expect a familiar sound from the group.

Currently on the road, Deep Purple are playing several dates in Russia before coming to Europe in December. They have recently been named as first-time nominees for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Class of 2013.
