Roger Daltrey To Bring Tommy Back To Life

The Who frontman to perform tracks from the rock opera at Teenage Cancer Trust gig

Published 8th Feb 2011

Following the phenomenal success of Quadrophenia for Teenage Cancer Trust in 2010, on Thursday 24 March, Roger Daltrey, will perform The Who’s 1969 rock opera Tommy as well as early hits including material from Live at Leeds. The legendary musician and the driving force behind Concerts for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall will perform the album about the "deaf, dumb and blind kid."

Daltrey will be joined by Biffy Clyro who play their first UK date of 2011 on Wednesday 23 March. This is their second appearance for Teenage Cancer Trust, having first performed in 2006. This is their only available UK date before July when they headline Sonisphere Knebworth and play as special guests to long time Teenage Cancer Trust supporters Foo Fighters at this year’s sold out Milton Keynes gigs.

On Friday 25 March Liam Gallagher also returns to Teenage Cancer Trust’s stage after Oasis played in 2002, this time with new band Beady Eye. Formed with Oasis band members, guitarist Gem Archer, bassist Andy Bell and alongside drummer Chris Sharrock, the band will play songs from their eagerly anticipated debut album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, including new single The Roller.

Longstanding Teenage Cancer Trust patron Roger Daltrey CBE comments on this year’s line-up, "These gigs have raised nearly £10 million in 10 years and they make a real difference to the lives of thousands of young people with cancer. We’ve had both legends and rising stars play for Teenage Cancer Trust over the years and 2011 is no different. I’m truly grateful to everyone for their support.”
