The 72-year-old vocalist is the 25th winner of the Music Industry Trusts Award and will receive his honour at a ceremony in London on Monday 7th November.

Proceeds from the evening will go to music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and the BRIT trust charity – both of which Daltrey has supported.

“It's great to be honoured by my friends and colleagues in the music industry in this way in the 25th year of the Music Industry Trusts Award,” says Roger.

“Nordoff Robbins and the BRIT trust are wonderful charities. The Who were there at the beginning and I am proud to join the honourees that have received this award before me and themselves done so much not only for these charities but also for many others.”

Alongside changing the face of rock music with The Who over the past five decades, Roger has been a tireless charity campaigner raising money for the likes of PETA, The Prince’s Trust, the Robin Hood Foundation and the Children’s Defence Fund.

All The Who's Encore Series profits go to young persons’ charities and in 2000 he was pivotal in starting the annual Teenage Cancer Trust concert series, which have raised over £20million.

David Munns OBE, chairman of the MITS Award committee, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that in our 25th year we will be honouring Roger Daltrey with the Music Industry Trusts Award for 2016.

“Roger Daltrey embodies the ethos of the MITS Award and is a deserving honouree in this milestone year. We are proud to recognise not only Roger’s musical output, both as a solo performer and as part of The Who, but also his tireless dedication for charitable causes and in particular the Teenage Cancer Trust which has helped thousands of young people throughout the UK and worldwide.

“Roger Daltrey is an inspiration when it comes to personal devotion to charities and is a worthy recipient in this historic year.”

Previous recipients of the Music Industry Trusts Award include Ahmet Ertegun, Sir George Martin and Peter Gabriel.

The Who are playing arena shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham and Liverpool this August and September. Head to Planet Rock Tickets to get tickets.
