Rock Holds Its Own At The Grammy Awards

Led Zeppelin won their first ever ‘real Grammy’ award, taking home ‘Best Rock album’ for Celebration Day, despite not being present at the event. They previously won a lifetime achievement award in 2005.

Black Sabbath were on the red carpet and won Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance for God Is Dead. Guitarist Tony Iommi is feeling pretty good about it all, listen to what he had to say below:

Paul McCartney was among the double Grammy winners and he also reunited with his Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr. The Beatles collected a Lifetime Achievement gong with 2014 being the 50th anniversary of their first trip to America.

Macca also appeared on stage with Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear to perform a track from Grohl’s ‘Real To Reel: Sound City’ album/documentary which won ‘Best Rock Song’, and ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack’.

Metallica performed ‘One’ with Chinese pianist Lang Lang and the ceremony closed with a rockstar-studded performance that was controversially cut short.

The performance opened with Nine Inch Nails playing ‘Copy of A’ with Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham supporting on vocals and guitars.

However, the collective’s second track augmented by Dave Grohl on drums – a rousing rendition QOTSA’s ‘My God Is The Sun’ - was cut short for the closing credits. The broadcast then ended before the supergroup had even wrapped up.

Angry at the abrupt end, Trent Reznor took to Twitter to vent his frustrations, writing: “Music's biggest night... to be disrespected.  A heartfelt F*** YOU guys.
