Rock classics dominate best-selling vinyl albums of 2019 countdown
Almost 38 years on from its initial release, Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ has been crowned the best-selling vinyl album of 2019 so far.
Buoyed by the phenomenal success of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ has sold 15,700 copies on vinyl in the first six months of 2019, according to newly released Official Charts figures.
Alongside more contemporary releases, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ (no.4), Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ (no.5), David Bowie best of album ‘Legacy’ (no.7) and the Bohemian Rhapsody official soundtrack (no.10) also appear in the Top 10.
Other albums of note in the Top 40 include Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ (no.11), Bruce Springsteen’s latest record ‘Western Stars’ (no.12), Pink Floyd’s ‘The Division Bell’ (no. 26), Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits II’ (no. 29) and Nirvana’s ‘Unplugged in New York’ (no. 32).
Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ is the officially best-selling album of all time in the UK with over 6.3million copies sold as of December 2018. Its nearest rival is ABBA’s ‘Gold: Greatest Hits’, which has shifted 5.58million units.
