Robin McAuley releases statement after 'hellish' week battling sepsis
Irish rock vocalist Robin McAuley has been released from hospital after taking ill with sepsis last week.
The 66-year-old Michael Schenker Fest singer was rushed to hospital after unexpectedly becoming ill shortly before Michael Schenker Fest were due to travel to the 7000 Tons of Metal Cruise in Florida.
Doctors later discovered that the bacteria in McAuley’s blood that caused the sepsis was e-Coli and they treated him “aggressively” with targeted antibiotics.
On Friday (10th January), McAuley’s wife Gina confirmed he had got the all-clear to leave hospital and he was remaining on intravenous antibiotics at home.
Last night (13th January), McAuley himself released a lengthy statement about his “hellish” week and said the sepsis “almost took me out but not quite.”
McAuley wrote: “Happy Monday everyone. It’s me, I’m alive and getting stronger by the day! It’s been a Hellish week for me and my Wife Gina and the Boys, that took me completely by surprise.
“Some sneaky b*stard calling himself e-Coli Sepsis, snook up behind me and sucker punched me. Almost took me out but not quite.
“Thanks to my Amazing Wife Gina and her 24/7 hands on love and care for me and the support of my Sons Jamie and Casey. The incredible quick work of our ER and Hospital staff, I’m forever grateful of how you carried me through one of the worst and scariest experiences I have ever known.
“A very Special Thank You to all who reached out inquiring about my well being. I apologize to my family and friends that they found out about this through social media firstly. Gina did her best to handle all the calls she could, including my own phone blowing up needing answers?
“I’m moved and in awe of the “Love and Concern” I have been shown from so many of you this past week.
“Thank You forever!!!”
McAuley also apologised to fans and his fellow Michael Schenker Fest band mates for not performing on the 7000 Tons of Metal Cruise, explaining he was “packed and ready to sail until the “Big Disaster” struck!!”
He plans to hit the road with Michael Schenker Fest for their shows in Japan in March and the UK and mainland Europe later in the spring.
McAuley also said his other band Black Swan featuring guitarist Reb Beach (Winger, Whitesnake), bassist Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, The End Machine, ex-Dokken), and drummer Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr. Big) have just released their fittingly titled new song ‘Big Disaster’.
He said: “Never was a song title more apt and timely than “Big Disaster”!!! It’s been quite the big disaster week for me, but Im still here for the clean up! It’s a new day, I’m Blessed and I’ll be back real soon.”
‘Big Disaster’ is lifted from Black Swan’s debut album 'Shake The World' which is released via Frontiers Music Srl on Friday 14th February.
