Robbie Robertson Inducted Into Canadian Hall Of Fame
Former Band member to receive honour in April
Robbie Robertson will be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on 2 April at Toronto's Centre For The Arts.
The guitarist, songwriter and former member of The Band will be honoured for his entire work, not just for an individual song. Robbie's accolade will mark the first time the Hall of Fame has done that for an artist.
The news comes as Robertson prepares to release his first solo album in 13 years.
How To Become Clairvoyant is released in April and features collaborations with old friend Eric Clapton (who co-wrote three songs and appears on six songs), plus the unlikely pairing of Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails and Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello.
"The boys helped me out," Robertson told Rolling Stone. "I think I've written some really good songs, and ... it turned out quite extraordinary." Robertson, 67, released four solo albums between 1987 and 1998, long after the break-up of the Band. Now, almost 50 years after the group's first ramblings with Bob Dylan, Robertson has written This Is Where I Get Off, a song about his last days as the Band's guitarist and principal songwriter. Other tracks explore addiction, 60s idealism and "rock'n'roll's early reputation as the devil's music".
