Rival Sons return with new single 'Do Your Worst'
Long Beach rockers Rival Sons have returned to the fore with sublime new single ‘Do Your Worst’.
A typically rip-roaring anthem from the band, ‘Do Your Worst’ is the first tantalising taster of Rival Sons’ as-yet-untitled sixth studio album, which has once again been produced by long-time collaborator Dave Cobb.
The song has been performed three times by Rival Sons at US shows in late August and early September – Arts, Beasts & Eats Festival, the Harley Davidson 115th Anniversary bash and Live on the Green 2018 – and the accompanying video boasts footage of the band belting out the track live together with a performance filmed at Nashville’s RCA Studio A.
The follow-up album to 2016’s ‘Hollow Bones’ is expected to be released in early 2019. The record was recorded at Studio and the fabled Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Singer Jay Buchanan told Rolling Stone he and guitarist Scott Holiday penned ‘Do Your Worst’ during an intense writing session in rural south Tennessee.
“Sometimes environment really shapes a song,” he explained. “Hunkered down in a threadbare shack deep in the south Tennessee woods we (Scott and I) sweated it out and just wrote for a week straight.
“We were set out on an old causeway surrounded by neglected reservoirs and overgrown with shit you don’t want to see and yes; infested with all manner snakes. The song is a whiskey nightmare crawling with copperheads to me.”
