Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow are recording new music together

Ritchie Blackmore has confirmed that his current incarnation of Rainbow is recording new music together.

After immersing himself in the world of Renaissance music for two decades with Blackmore’s Night, Ritchie assembled a new Rainbow line-up last year for a trio of triumphant shows including Birmingham’s Genting Arena.

Buoyed by the rapturous response, the band are playing four further UK arena shows this summer and now, in a fresh interview with Japan's Burrn! Magazine, Ritchie has revealed that he has recorded two new tracks.

As transcribed by Deep Purple fan site The Highway Star, Ritchie said he’s been working at his home recording studio with singer Ronnie Romero adding vocals from Spain.

“I wrote one new song, and also recorded one of the old ones,” Ritchie said. “Ronnie, who is in Madrid now, added his vocals and sent it back. Rather than make an album, we may release as singles.”

Waxing lyrical about Ronnie Romero, Ritchie added: “When I heard him, he seemed like the right guy to sing the Dio era songs of Rainbow. He is versatile, he can sing like Freddie Mercury or Ronnie James Dio or Graham Bonnet.

“The reason I did not ask Joe Lynn Turner is because I thought European fans wanted to hear the Dio lineup of Rainbow. I was very surprised that tickets sold out in 15 minutes. It was nice to know so many people wanted to hear Rainbow at this time.”

When the songs see the light of day, they will be Ritchie’s first new releases under the Rainbow moniker since his 1995 album ‘Stranger In Us All’.

Earlier this month it was announced that Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow’s very special June 2016 show at Birmingham’s Genting Arena is being released as a double album.

‘Live In Birmingham 2016’ includes all 15 songs performed at the sell-out show including ‘Burn’ and ‘Soldier of Fortune’ that didn’t make the setlist at their earlier Monsters of Rock gigs in Germany.
