Rick Wakeman announces last UK performances of 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'

Just like the original live record, the concerts will take place at London’s world-famous Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July 2019.

Taking place 45 years after the release of ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’, the 2,900-capacity shows will also celebrate Rick Wakeman’s 70th birthday.

The Yes legend will be flanked by The Orion Orchestra, The English Chamber Choir and The English Rock Ensemble, with special guest appearances from Alfie Boe and Robert Powell also confirmed.

Rick comments: “It will be very moving and nostalgic to once again walk out onto the stage where it all began.”

Tickets to the two very special concerts go on sale from Planet Rock Tickets at 10am on Wednesday 13th March.

Recorded at the second of Rick’s two Royal Festival Hall shows on 18th January 1974, the 40-minute orchestral rock piece that forms ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ is based on Jules Verne's science fiction novel of the same name.

The ambitious concept album hit number one in the UK and went on to sell more than 15million copies worldwide.

For many years, the original conductor's score was presumed lost, making any attempt to revive this seminal work impossible. However, in 2008, a parcel containing the score arrived out of the blue from Australia, enabling Rick to record a new, extended studio version in 2012 and a subsequent 2014 sold-out UK tour.

Rick will be performing this revised version at the two shows in July. Rick Wakeman plays:
