REVIEW: Bon Jovi At The O2

Planet Rock was on hand to see Bon Jovi kick off their O2 residency last night

Bon Jovi kicked off their residency at the 02 in spectacular style last night. After becoming the first band ever to perform on roof of the London venue in the afternoon, New Jersey’s finest rocked out with a set list of wall-to-wall hits for fans old and new. Furthermore, they’ll do it eleven more times during their stay in the capital.

The production was super-slick and there’s still a smattering of leather and lamé. But despite the glitz and glamour, guitarist Richie Sambora proved he’s still got more than a little rock n’ roll magic in his fingers and Jon Bon Jovi defied the years with a set of lungs that any self respecting frontman would kill for.

By time the band tore into their second track, ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’, the 23 thousand strong crowd had surrendered completely to the power of one of rock’s most powerful machines. It is exactly as it’s supposed to be; Bon Jovi are the kings when it comes to this stuff. I’d challenge even the most hardened cynic to watch this show and not have their hands in the air for the grand finale, ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.....

Here's the setlist:

Blood on Blood
We Weren't Born To Follow
You Give Love A Bad Name
Whole Lot Of Leaving
Born To Be My Baby
Lost Highway

Captain Crash
We Got It Going On
Bad Medicine

Love's The Only Rule
Lay Your Hands On Me
 (Richie's vocal)
Hallelujah
I'll Be There For You
Something For The Pain
Saturday Night
Sleep When I'm Dead
Work For The Working Man
Who Says You Can't Go Home
Keep The Faith
In These Arms
