Rare White Stripes Single Sells For £11k
A $6 seven inch has sold for 3000 times its original worth
A hand painted copy of the White Stripes’ second single, ‘Lafayette Blues’ has sold at auction for a massive $18,000.
Just fifteen copies of the single were pressed onto 7” vinyl and due to a delay in printing Jack White and his label boss Dave Buick handpainted the covers and sold the songles for $6 from Detroit’s Gold Dollar venue. And now a copy of the single has sold at an auction for just over £11,000.
What makes this single particularly interesting is that two previously available copies have also sold at auction – in 2003 a copy sold for $800 and 12 months later a copy sold for $2700.
