Rare Gabriel Art Up For Grabs
Peter Gabriel is selling limited edition prints of his album art
Peter Gabriel is selling rare prints of his artwork – but you may have to dig deep into the coffers to buy it.
The former Genesis frontman is offering fans a chance to purchase limited edition fine art prints of fifteen of his album covers.
"The visual part of records has always been something that's excited me from when I was a fan and buying records,” says Gabriel on his official site. "I've always loved great artwork and album art. I think it's been a huge part of what people identify and feel about the music and the records. When it's done well I think it's fantastic.
"When I put out records without titles it was because I tended to remember my own records by the artwork. I used to love gatefold sleeves ...when you would sit at home with a new record and open it up it was just a precious moment. Now we've gone into this digital world a lot of that has been lost.
"We've been talking about how to get some quality prints of the artwork for a long time and fortunately now it's actually all happened.
"All the artwork is going to be made available on our site. There are lots of great people and cool ideas that have gone into these album sleeves and it made me happy to see all the prints.”
The prints are all signed by Gabriel and the artists responsible.
The prices range from £999 for a 40” x 50” print (limited to 25 prints of each cover) to £599 for a 25.5” x 33.5” print (limited to 100 prints of each cover). The website warns that prices will go up as prints start to sell out.
