Rammstein guitarists kiss at Moscow concert in defiance of Russia’s anti-LGBTQ laws
Not for the first time on their summer 2019 European stadium tour, Rammstein have shown solidarity to the LGBTQ community on stage.
At the conclusion of encore opener ‘Aüslander’ at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Monday night (29th July), guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Z. Kruspe walked towards each other and kissed.
Showing defiance to Russia’s notorious anti- LGBTQ+ laws, the kiss was met with cheers from the capacity crowd.
Kruspe and Landers previously shared a kiss on stage at Berlin’s Olympiastadion last month and at Milton Keynes Stadium at the start of July.
Although homosexuality is legal in Russia, there are currently no laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The controversial gay propaganda law was signed into law by President Vladimir Putin in June 2013, which aims to protect children from being exposed to homosexuality and prohibits it from being represented as a “norm” in society.
Rammstein shared a photo of the moment in Moscow on Instagram last night and captioned it Россия, мы любим тебя! – “Russia we love you!”

At the Stadion Śląski in Chorzów, Poland on Wednesday 24th July, the band were carried across the audience in their trademark rubber dinghies while waving pride flags.
Four days earlier on 20th July at the Bialystok gay pride march in north-eastern Poland, marchers came under attack from far-right groups.
