Rammstein keyboardist Flake premieres 'Fairytale of New York' cover featuring Doro
Joey Kelly also performs on the track

Rammstein keyboardist Christian ‘Flake’ Lorenz has premiered his cover of The Pogues and Kirsty McColl’s festive classic ‘Fairytale of New York.’
The 58-year-old German musician’s version of ‘Fairytale of New York’ appears on his Christmas album entitled ‘Flake feiert Weihnachten’ (‘Flake celebrates Christmas’), which has been released to the world today (22nd November).
Flake has previously premiered his… erm… very different take on John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ and the traditional Christmas song ‘Weißer Winterwald’ (‘Winter Wonderland’), both of which see Flake tackle lead vocals in his unique style.
For his newly premiered ‘Fairytale of New York’ cover, the Rammstein star has drafted in The Metal Goddess herself Doro Pesch for Kirsty MacColl’s parts, while Joey Kelly sings the late-great Shane MacGowan’s lines.
Boasting the full-scale Rammstein production, Flake’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ video somewhat bizarrely sees Kelly take on the role of Mel Gibson’s William Wallace from the Braveheart movie.
Flake also takes centre stage in the video playing his pink keyboard with Doro and Kelly singing in the background.

Back in 2020, Jon Bon Jovi premiered a much-derided cover of The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale of New York.’
Despite the outpouring of critical comments online, Shane MacGowan praised Jon Bon Jovi’s take on the track.
Shane’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke wrote on Twitter: “Shane says @BonJovi is a talented guy and he likes the version, and he thinks it’s interesting and soulful.”
