Queen To Change Label

Reports suggest that the band may be about to ditch EMI after 40 years

Queen are reported to be on the verge of leaving EMI after nearly 40 years.

Classic Rock Magazine reports that the band are due to see out their current deal with the troubled EMI label before moving to Universal who are thought to have put a multi-million pound deal on the table.

The band have been with EMI for their entire career, but with their 40th Anniversary rapidly approaching in 2011 it’s thought that a more lucrative offer from Universal may persuade the band to see out their deal with their current label which expires at the end of the year.

EMI has struggled to hold onto its big stars in recent years with high profile departures such as Paul McCartney, Radiohead and the Rolling Stones and a lawsuit from Pink Floyd over unpaid royalties adding to concerns that the historic label is ailing.

Queen have not announced any plans for 2011 to commemorate their 40th birthday, but you can be pretty sure that the band will be planning something.
