Queen to be honoured with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award
Queen are among the artists who will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys later this month.
According to the Recording Academy, the honour recognises artists who ‘have made a lasting impression on the recording industry’ over the decades.
Alongside Queen, this year’s other lifetime achievement honourees are Hal Blaine, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, the Meters and Tina Turner.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is part of the Recording Academy's trio of Special Merit Awards, which also includes the Trustees Award (that will be awarded to Bill Graham, Seymour Stein and John Williams) and the Technical Grammy Award, which goes to Tony Agnello and Richard Factor.
"This year's Special Merit Awards recipients are a prestigious group of diverse and influential creators who have crafted or contributed to some of the most distinctive recordings in music history," says Recording Academy president/CEO Neil Portnow.
"These exceptionally inspiring figures are being honoured as legendary performers, creative architects, and technical visionaries. Their outstanding accomplishments and passion for their craft have created a timeless legacy."
Astonishingly, despite being nominated four times, Queen have never won a Grammy Award throughout their legendary career.
The only nods from the Recording Academy for Queen before this year were two Hall of Fame inductions for ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in 2009 and 2004 respectively.
The 60th annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday 28th January 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
