Police Pull Plug On Springsteen's Hyde Park Set
He didn't get a chance to say thanks to fans before the mics were pulled
Springsteen was nearing the end of an extended jam on Twist & Shout with Sir Paul McCartney and was due to say his thanks to fans after a 3+ hour set that had also seen guest appearances from John Fogerty and Tom Morello, when the band's sound was faded out due to the fact that they had broken curfew.
Despite the fact that fans didn't seem too disappointed (it's not like they could question the value for money) E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt hit out at the decision, calling it a "police state".
"One of the great gigs ever in my opinion. But seriously, when did England become a police state?" he Tweeted after the gig.
"We break curfews in every country but only English cops needs to "punish us" by not letting us leave until the entire crowd goes. Is there just too much fun in the world? We would have been off by 11 if we'd done one more. On a Saturday night! Who were we disturbing?"
Adding: "I'm sorry but I have to be honest I'm pissed. Like I said, it didn't ruin the great night. But when I'm jamming with McCartney don't bug me!"
