Rock legend and keen petrolhead Nick Mason is auctioning off a rare Pink Floyd edition of the 1995 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet Mk3 car.

Back in the mid-90s, Volkswagen sponsored European tours by Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi, and honoured each band with the release of a special-edition Golf Mk3 car featuring distinctive band markings.

81-year-old Nick Mason has been collecting and racing cars for over half a century, and his vast haul includes one of only 39 Ferrari 250 GTOs, valued at over £30 million.

Mason acquired a worn and weathered Pink Floyd edition of the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet Mk3 “some years ago” with plans to restore it, however he’s now decided to auction it off to raise funds for the Harefield Healing Garden Charity.

The drumming icon will personally sign the car, and the lot will also include various items of Pink Floyd memorabilia emblazoned with Mason’s signature.

Iconic Auctioneers are selling the Golf at 11am on Saturday 8th November 2025 at the NEC in Birmingham, with all proceeds going to Mason’s chosen charity. You can find out more details here.

A description says the sale is an “unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a Pink Floyd Edition Golf Cabriolet owned by a member of the band, offered with a suite of signed memorabilia and direct provenance from Nick.

“Volkswagen's collaboration with Pink Floyd in the early 1990s produced one of their most distinctive special editions. It featured unique badging, colour-keyed bumpers and mirrors, special seat upholstery, and a high-quality sound system complete with factory Pink Floyd logos. Today, this limited edition is rare, with few remaining in original form.”

It continues: “Nick acquired the Golf some years ago as a project to restore. Although the restoration was never completed, the car is offered with an extensive collection of accompanying parts, representing an opportunity for a VW enthusiast or Pink Floyd aficionado to bring this special edition Cabriolet back to life.

“In addition to the car itself, this remarkable lot includes a collection of signed memorabilia from Nick, comprising a pair of signed drumsticks, a signed copy of Nick's Into The Red book, four signed vinyl albums, t-shirts including an original Pink Floyd/VW Golf design, and several signed DVDs, including The Story of Wish You Were Here.

“Additionally, Nick will personally sign the car itself, with a photograph of him doing so provided to accompany the sale, ensuring absolute provenance.”
