Pink Floyd inflatables up for auction

What do you do with a 60ft tall pig balloon?...

In what is likely to be one of the most surreal auctions ever, the company behind Pink Floyd's iconic flying pig are selling off items from their warehouse of strange inflatables.

Air Artists are responsible for giant figures that have dominated stages across the world for almost 40 years. From AC/DC's buxom Rosie and Iron Maiden's Eddie, to the Rolling Stones' Bridges To Babylon and Voodoo Lounge menagerie of characters, they've got quite the pedigree.

But now their founder Rob Harries has decided to clear them out after a change in artistic direction led to him working in clay."I'm sad to see them go but they very rarely see the light of day and so I would be quite happy for someone else to take them for a walk" Harries told the BBC, perhaps with tongue in cheek.

Initially Pink Floyd's iconic 'Algie', the pig balloon that escaped its moorings and shut down Heathrow airport in 1976, was included in the lot, but he has been withdrawn. Floyd porcine fans need not despair, however, as they can still bid on the 30ft long rainbow coloured pig in the picture at the top of the page that was made for Pink Floyd when Roger Waters left the band.

This cheery chappy pales into insignificance when compared to 'Herman', however...

At a gargantuan 47ft wide x 70ft deep x 60ft tall, this mammoth pig head was used for Roger Waters' landmark 1990 concert in Berlin for The Wall. To put into context the size of Herman, look at the picture above.
See that black dot on the wall to the right of Herman? That's a person...

Quite who is in the market for these items remains to be seen; auctioneers Durrants have said that they "really don't know" how much the lots will fetch when the auction concludes on 15th September because of the bizarre nature of the items.

Take a look yourself, and see if you can justify buying a 60ft pig to your other half...
