Pink Floyd Founded School To Close
One of two south London schools to close after losing funding from its local council.
NME reports that the band raised £1,000 for Schoolhouse Education in London at an Oxfam gig at Wembley Empire Pool in 1972.
The school, which has two sites in the south of the capital, was set up for truants, bullied children and other disaffected teens.
It Lewisham site will now shut its doors after failing to attract enough students and losing its funding. The Times Educational Supplement reports that its Greenwich site will remain open.
Headteacher Lynda Smith told the News Of The World that the school "would not exist if it wasn't for Pink Floyd".
She added that the band's "most famous song" 'Another Brick In The Wall' mentions the "sort of teenagers we are trying to help".
"Now we are looking for another miracle if the school is to stay in existence," Smyth commented.
