Manchester based Richard Houghton is looking for first-hand recollections of the band’s formative gigs in intimate venues in the 1960s before they became international rock giants.

Shows on Houghton’s wide-ranging checklist include the Christmas Ball at Dundee Art College, The Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen, Whitburn Bay Hotel in Sunderland, Windsor's Ricky Tick Club, the Floral Hall in Southport and many more.

"I'm interested in capturing people's memories for posterity and hopefully telling the band's story in a slightly different way via first hand account of their earliest shows," says Richard.

“I’m hoping to tell the band’s story in a slightly different way, to create an oral history of Pink Floyd.  I’ve collected over a hundred stories so far, including some great Syd era memories, but I’d like to hear from anyone who’s seen the band.

“I’m interested in what people remember of the first show they saw but also how they became a Floyd fan and what their favourite album or track is.”

Those who attended early Pink Floyd shows can contact Richard by email at isawpinkfloyd@gmail.com or write to him at 1 Totnes Road, Manchester, M21 8XF.

Richard’s book, titled Pink Floyd – I Was There, is tentatively set for release via Red Planet Books in Spring 2018.

The author has previously release ‘I Was There’ books for The Beatles, The Who and The Rolling Stones.
