Peter Frampton's 'Frampton Comes Alive!' inducted into Grammy Hall of Fame

In total 26 albums and singles were added to the catalogue at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles yesterday (14th January) as part of the 2020 inductions. 

Alongside ‘Frampton Comes Alive!’ and ‘Eat A Peach’, other recordings immortalised this year include Joni Mitchell’s ‘Clouds’, The Police’s ‘Every Breath You Take’, Bo Diddley’s ‘I’m A Man’, Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’ and Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline.’ 

Now in its 47th year, the Grammy Hall of Fame preserves and celebrates timeless pieces of music. In order to qualify, recordings must be at least 25 years old and ‘exhibit qualitative or historical significance.’ 

Recordings are reviewed each year by a special member committee comprised of eminent and knowledgeable professionals from all branches of the recording arts, with final approval by the Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees. 

"Each year it is our distinct privilege to preserve a piece of cultural and music history with our Grammy Hall Of Fame inductions," said Deborah Dugan, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. 

"We are so honored to welcome these timeless masterpieces to our growing catalog of iconic recordings that serve as a beacon of music excellence and diverse expression that will forever impact and inspire generations of creators."

Reacting to his induction, Peter Frampton tweeted: “I received news today that my album, Frampton Comes Alive! has been inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame. Thank you so much. I definitely didn’t see this coming! What a wonderful honour to be inducted and join so many incredible artists.” 

Peter Frampton’s swansong tour - Peter Frampton Finale - The Farewell Tour – concludes with five headline shows in the UK this coming May. 

The tour opens at Edinburgh Usher Hall on Sunday 24th May and calls in at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, Manchester O2 Apollo, Cardiff St David’s Hall and London Royal Albert Hall.

Back in February 2019, Peter Frampton revealed he is suffering from a degenerative muscle disease called Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM).

Frampton explained at the time The Farewell Tour will definitely be his last one due to the rare and incurable condition, which causes muscles to weaken over time.

Frampton was first diagnosed with the disease four years ago after he fell over on stage, however he booked his farewell tour when he noticed the effects speeding up in autumn 2018.
