Peter Frampton unsure he can tour again due to muscle disease
He appears on My Planet Rocks
Peter Frampton has told Planet Rock he’s unsure whether he’ll be able to tour again because of the degenerative muscle disease he’s suffering from, Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM).
The Kent-born guitar legend appears on My Planet Rocks this Sunday evening (30th May) and Wyatt asked him whether he hopes to play to complete his farewell tour. He was forced to cancel the UK and European leg in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Frampton replied: “My desire is yes to do it, but a year disappeared there - a little bit more now. We all have our life clock, and we were living with our Covid clock. I have a third clock - I have my IBM clock.
“So, the longer the pandemic went on, or goes on… it’s still going on, the less chance there is (of me touring) because the muscle disease has not stopped. It's progressing.”
Despite his degenerative disease, 71-year-old Frampton remains optimistic: “I'm very positive about the future. The new album (April 2021’s ‘Frampton Forgets the Words’) obviously has been very well received, so I couldn't be more happy with the way things are going right now.
“I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to tour again but I'll be making music. I'm not saying that I won’t tour again, it's just I have to be realistic in as much as I have a muscle disease, and in the end it's going to stop me playing and. But, I've got plans to record a lot more before that happens.”
Peter Frampton first revealed he was suffering from Inclusion Body Myositis in February 2019. He explained at the time The Farewell Tour will definitely be his last one due to the rare and incurable condition, which causes muscles to weaken over time.
Frampton was first diagnosed with the disease six years ago after he fell over on stage, however he booked his farewell tour when he noticed the effects speeding up in autumn 2018.
