Pearl Jam To Celebrate 20th Birthday With Neil Young
Grunge rockers to play Young\'s charity concert in October
Pearl Jam will celebrate their 20th Anniversary at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit shows.
Speaking to Billboard, Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard has revealed that they will be commemorating their remarkable achievement in a typically understated way.
"The only thing we've got going on in October is Bridge School, which is really special. So that's our 20th anniversary, which is fitting. It's perfect: not too blown up. It's not about us, it about all those kids that are on stage with you and about Neil Young and his commitment, his influence."
Pearl Jam played their first ever live gig as Mookie Blaylock on 22 October 1990 in their hometown of Seattle. They will be performing at the Bridge School Benefit Concerts on 23-24 October.
The news comes not too long after the future of Pearl Jam was called into question when frontman Eddie Vedder announced onstage in Spain that we wouldn’t be seeing them again for a very long time.
But Gossard says that the band may be heading out on the road next year and have a new album firmly in their minds.
"We were actually talking about trying to get in to write and record before Bridge School, but I think this Band Of Horses tour with Brad Gossard’s side-project is going to make that harder to do. But the band is definitely going to get together probably initially without Ed Vedder and start to hammer out some more demos and get some stuff to the point where he can hear it."
