Pearl Jam Keeping Planet Alive
Band invest in their carbon footprint
Pearl Jam are to invest heavily in offsetting the carbon footprint of their last US tour.
The band tell Reuters that they will be spending in the region of $210,000 on planting trees in Washington to offset the damage caused by the band and their fans who travelled to see them on their 32 dates.
"Pearl Jam is a band but we are also a business," guitarist and co-founder Stone Gossard told Reuters.
"We're seeing ourselves as a Washington business, a regional business that is acknowledging its carbon footprint and hoping to inspire other businesses."
The band hope to build similar urban forests in Seattle, Kent, Kirkland and Redmond.
Meanwhile, Pearl Jam’s frontman Eddie Vedder flew into the UK last night to take part in The Who’s performance of Quadrophenia at the Royal Albert Hall.
Vedder took lead vocals on a couple of songs in the rock opera, while Kasabian’s Tom Meighan also took part.
Pearl Jam return to the UK in the summer to headline the Hard Rock Calling Festival on Friday 25 June.
