Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder performed a poignant acoustic cover of Nine Inch Nails’ enduring anthem ‘Hurt’ at the band’s homecoming Seattle concert on Thursday night (30th May).
Armed with his acoustic guitar, Eddie Vedder returned to the stage solo for Pearl Jam’s encore at Climate Pledge Arena and he proceeded to talking about missing old friends – an apparent nod to Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley.
“In any other city there’s no guest list as big as the one that we have when we’re in Seattle,” Vedder said during the song’s intro.
“To be honest, I wish it were longer. There are certain names that I so deeply wish were on the guestlist tonight, but we lost them too early and in ways that we could never imagine.
“Damnit if I can’t stop thinking about them. But that’s a good thing too.”

It’s the first time Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Hurt’ has featured on a Pearl Jam setlist, however Eddie Vedder has performed it five times at solo shows.
In support of their new album ‘Dark Matter’, Pearl Jam play Dublin Marlay Park on Saturday 22nd June, Manchester’s brand new venue Co-op Live on Tuesday 25th June, and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 29th June.
