Pearl Jam and Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron shares poignant note Chris Cornell wrote to him

Matt uploaded a photograph on Instagram of part of the note penned on blue paper, which simply and poignantly reads: “Take it easy over the summer. Stay sweet. Love Chris.”

He captioned his post with the words ‘"Stay sweet" and hug those you love. ❤’ and shared a further image of him hugging Chris and their Soundgarden band mate Kim Thayil.

In an interview with Billboard last September, Matt made his first public comment on Chris’s passing.

"I don't think we're ready to say anything other than...Kim (Thayil) and Ben (Shepherd) and I are certainly aware of how much our fans are hurting, and we're certainly hurting right there along with them," Matt said.

"But we're extremely private people, and we're all still processing our grief in our own way and on our own time. But we definitely are thinking of our fans and love them very much."

A truly prolific musician, alongside Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Temple of the Dog, Matt has been a core member of Tone Dogs, Skin Yard, Hater and Wellwater Conspiracy.

Matt released his debut solo album ‘Cavedweller’ on Friday 22nd September last year.

Speaking about releasing it four months after Chris’s death, Matt said at the time: "I was certainly on the fence when I came home from the Soundgarden tour, but it feels good to take one step forward here. This has been a positive step for me for sure."

"For me, it's just the basic joy of songwriting and my whole mission draws out of that .... One of the millions of takeaways from being in those bands (Soundgarden and Pearl Jam) is just full creativity, 100 percent of the time.

“So that was one of the goals for me even wanting to do a record was to make sure that I was going to release a full musical statement like this. It was going to be 100 percent me."
