Pearl Jam / Alice In Chains Side Project May Return

Guitarist Mike McCready says that Mad Season have an album's worth of material

Mad Season consisted of Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley, Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, The Walkabouts bassist John Baker Saunders and Pearl Jam guitarist McCready.

They released one album, Above, in 1995 before going on indefinite hiatus. However, McCready says that there are enough unrecorded songs from their time together to make a new album.

"We have 13 unreleased songs we never did,” McCready explained.

Sadly both Staley and Saunders passed away more than a decade ago, so Mad Season are looking to recruit a new singer and bassist to fill in on the new album.

"We’re trying to find singers that are up to the caliber of Layne to do justice to it," says McCready. "I know a lot of great singers but it’s just getting the commitment.”

And it looks like the frontman job will fall to Martin's former Screaming Trees bandmate, and occasional Queens Of The Stone Age collaborator, Mark Lanegan, who helped write two songs on Mad Season's debut and sang on the song 'Long Gone Day.'

The band will look to record the album later this year and hope to have it ready either before the end of 2012 or in early 2013.
