Ozzy Osbourne wins two Grammy Awards
Four days after retiring from touring
Ozzy Osbourne scooped two Grammy Awards last night (5th February) just four days after he announced his retirement from touring.
The 74-year-old Birmingham legend won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for ‘Patient Number 9’ beating the likes of Elvis Costello and The Black Keys to the honour.
Earlier in the night, Osbourne also won Best Metal Performance for his lascivious Tony Iommi collaboration ‘Degradation Rules.’ Other songs nominated in the same category included Ghost’s ‘Call Me Little Sunshine’, Megadeth’s ‘We’ll Be Back’ and Muse's ‘Kill or Be Killed.’
Unfortunately, Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t able to attend the Grammys ceremony at the crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, however ‘Patient Number 9’ producer Andrew Watt and Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, who played bass on the record, were on hand to accept the Best Rock Album gong on Osbourne’s behalf.
Andrew Watt told the star-studded crowd: "Ozzy, Sharon, we love you so much. We just want to take a second to thank the unbelievable musicians that helped to make this album. So many people came together for Ozzy. The great Taylor Hawkins, Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo, the great Jeff Beck - greatest guitar player alive, Josh Homme."
Robert Trujillo then added Tony Iommi to the list of collaborators before Watt namechecked others involved in making the record.
Ozzy Osbourne wins Best Rock Album at the Grammys:
Elsewhere in the rock categories, Brandi Carlisle won both Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for her song ‘Broken Horses’. She brushed aside competition from the likes of Bryan Adams, Ozzy Osbourne and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Elsewhere, Edgar Winter won Best Contemporary Blues Album for his tribute to his late brother Johnny Winter, ‘Brother Johnny’, and Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder took home for the Best Traditional Blues Album for ‘Get On Board.’
Bonnie Raitt was one of the biggest winners of the night triumphing in the Song of the Year category ahead of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé with her ballad ‘Just Like That.’ The 72-year-old also won Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Performance.
Raitt also performed the Christine McVie-penned ‘Songbird’ during the In Memoriam segment alongside Mick Fleetwood and Sheryl Crow.
Speaking on the red carpet, Mick Fleetwood revealed that Fleetwood Mac are ‘done’ following the death of Christine McVie last November.
