Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi are both up for reforming Black Sabbath in 2022
Echoing comments made by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi says he’d be up for reforming Black Sabbath for Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games.
In an interview with ITV News last week on the eve of his performance at Download Festival, Ozzy Osbourne was asked whether he’d like to perform at the opening ceremony of Birmingham 2022.
“Yeah, that would be fantastic,” Planet Rock Magazine cover star Ozzy enthused. “With Black Sabbath or on my own. I’d like to do that. We’re all Brummies after all.”
Now, speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Tony Iommi has agreed with Ozzy, saying: “I think that it would be a great thing to do to help represent Birmingham. I’m up for it! Let’s see what happens!”
Black Sabbath called it quits in February 2017 after playing their swansong show in Birmingham.
Speaking at a charity lunch at Birmingham’s Opus Restaurant back in April, Tony Iommi admitted it was “highly unlikely” Sabbath would reform for a one-off show but refused to rule it out.
Tony said: “You can never say never, because we've done it so many times, you say, 'Oh, that's it now,' with different singers and different this and that. And all of a sudden, we're playing together again.
“I would hope we could do some one-offs, but we'll never tour the world again as we did, because it really is exhausting."
Asked about the possibility of a one-off show in January, bassist Geezer Butler told Full Metal Jackie: "(It’s) not very likely at all. I think Ozzy is going out on his farewell tour, so that will be him touring for the next two or three years.
“So, I don't think there will be any chance of doing any one-offs or anything like that — which I'm fine with. We went out on a high, and it's best not to drag it out."
Black Sabbath’s limited-edition 7” vinyl box set ‘Supersonic Years - The Seventies Singles Box Set’ went on sale last week.
