Opeth Frontman Talks Prog Supergroup
New music coming from Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Dream Theater supergroup
Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt has been speaking to Classic Rock Magazine about a new prog supergroup with Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson and Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy.
In the interview, which you can read HERE, Akerfeldt revealed that he and Wilson had recently got together to record a track, and that an album would be on the way next year.
"I got together recently with Steven at his house, and we wrote a new tune straight away,” says Akerfeldt. "Of course, with the two of us involved it was 10 minutes long. And it came out so well that we started working on a second one as well.”
And the duo hope to have Portnoy along in future sessions...
"To be honest, there’s just no room for drums on what we’ve done so far. I called Mike up, and he was cool about it. He’s got so much going on anyway, and I’m sure we will work together in the future.”
Opeth are also due to release an album next year, while they release brand new live 3CD/2DVD album, In Concert Live At The Royal Albert Hall on 20 September.
