Ones To Watch: Tequila Mockingbyrd
The 40th band taking centre stage in our weekly Ones To Watch feature are Anglo-Australian rock n’ rollers Tequila Mockingbyrd.
Tequila Mockingbyrd are Louisa Baker (vocals, guitar), Jacinta Jaye (bass, backing vocals) and Josie O’Toole (drums, backing vocals)
Formed six years ago in sunny Melbourne, Australia, Tequila Mockingbyrd are purveyors of exuberant, spiky, no-nonsense rock music of the highest calibre. From their thunderous and abrasive 2016 anthem ‘I Smell Rock N’ Roll’ through to their hilarious ode to debauchery ‘Never Go Home’ and the aural adrenaline rush that is current single ‘Enjoy The Ride’, the trio’s music is consistently packed with catchy riffs and searing melodies and always brings a smile to your chops in these turbulent times.
Tequila Mockingbyrd’s formative years were spent plying their trade in Australia where they landed coveted support slots with the likes of The Darkness and Richie Ramone after his management heard their take on The Ramones classic ‘Somebody Put Something in my Drink’. Now a well-honed live musical force, in 2015 they started to make waves internationally, taking a trip to the Middle East on a government sponsored trip to entertain the troops and going on to play events like our very own Planet Rockstock, Hard Rock Hell, Amplified and Stone Free Festival.
The band unleashed their debut album ‘Fight and Flight’ to the world in early 2017 picking up considerable plaudits and denting the Top 10 in the Australian AIR charts and number 26 in the UK rock charts. 2018 has seen them return to the studio to record a new album, which is tentatively set for release later this year, and thanks to excellent new singles ‘Tell Me’ and ‘Enjoy The Ride’, the omens for the record are already looking/sounding very good indeed.
To celebrate their Ones To Watch feature, we’re exclusively premiering the video for ‘Enjoy The Ride’, which you can watch first right here:
