In the 34th instalment of our weekly Ones To Watch feature, we’re shining the spotlight on Devonshire rock trio Reigning Days

Reigning Days are Dan Steer (vocals/guitar), Joe Sansome (drums) and Elliot Elmer (bass).

As showcased on the New Rock Show playlisted anthem ‘Gravity’, Reigning Days are purveyors of gargantuan rock music that’s permeated with instantly infectious melodies and searing riffs. Testament to their considerable songwriting craft, as soon as one of their tunes enters your lugholes it immediately feels as though you’ve known it for years.

The trio’s history stretches way back more than half a decade when they formed as These Reigning Days. A very different musical beast, the synth-swathed sounds of singles ‘Opera of Love’ and ‘Living It Up’ had more in common with bands like The Killers than their current kindred spirits Royal Blood. Releasing one album as These Reigning Days, autumn 2014’s ‘Opera of Love’, it was when a technically-blighted gig in New Delhi forced them to perform without their electronic equipment that they had a musical epiphany. “We fell back in love with the freedom of just being three musicians in a room again. We went back to basics,” explains Joe.

Reborn and devoid of their demonstrative pronoun, Reigning Days showcased their new rockier sounds on their self-titled EP in 2016 that spawned the colossal tunes ‘Friendly Fire’, ‘Renegade’ and ‘Empire’, and coincided with a coveted appearance at Download Festival that summer.

In the run-up to Christmas last year, Reigning Days returned to the fore with the brilliant ‘Gravity’, which along with subsequent thunderous single ‘Inhaler’, paved the way nicely for their new album ‘Eclipse’. Met with considerable acclaim from the rock press when it was unleashed in April via Marshall Records, it’s a 14-track tour-de-force that marks Reigning Days out as one of the eminent rising talents in rock music.
