Ones To Watch: Doomsday Outlaw

Doomsday Outlaw are Phil Poole (lead vocals), Stephen Broughton (guitar), Gavin Mills (guitar), Indy (bass and backing vocals), John Ironfoot Willis (drums).

In keeping with their apocalyptic name, Doomsday Outlaw serve up monumental-sounding, blues-tinged rock music of the finest quality. Nodding towards a plethora of rock bastions including Led Zeppelin, Black Stone Cherry, Trapeze and even a spattering of The Faces, Doomsday Outlaw’s epic groove-laden tunes are chock-a-block with chunky riffs, booming vocals from effortlessly soulful frontman Phil and finely-honed, muscular rhythms. And if that’s not enough to win you over, excellent recent single ‘Over and Over’ has plenty of cowbell too.

Formed six years ago in Derbyshire from a shared penchant for riff-heavy rock juggernauts like Black Label Society and early Black Sabbath, Doomsday Outlaw truly morphed into the band they are today when they recruited Phil to their ranks in 2016. As drummer John explained at the time: "He's our ace in the hole. Everything else was in place with the songwriting and performance but Phil has just taken the band to the next level.” Wasting no time, that summer they unleashed their ominously-titled, self-released debut album ‘Suffer More’ to the world. Throughout its 15 tracks, the album perfectly showcased Doomsday Outlaw’s driving rock music with a backbone.  

With ‘Suffer More’ lavished with critical acclaim and the band fast gaining a reputation for searing live shows, Frontiers Music srl (Uriah Heep, Whitesnake, Inglorious) president Serfino Perugino personally signed Doomsday Outlaw to his imprint. Described by their Italian label as containing ‘timeless tales of heartbreak and redemption’, Doomsday Outlaw’s second record ‘Hard Times’ saw the light of day in May of this year and boasts the aforementioned ‘Over and Over’ and sensational current single ‘Bring It On Home’, which has recently been playlisted on Wyatt’s New Rock Show.  With their career on an upward trajectory, this summer they’ve landed a coveted slot at Bloodstock Festival that precedes their August shows with Graham Bonnet Band.
