Ones To Watch: Blind Haze

The 27th band to feature in our weekly Ones To Watch showcase of the finest fast-rising talent are rock n’ roll purists Blind Haze.

Blind Haze are Robert ‘Conan’ Threapleton (vocals, bass), Nicky Jefferson (guitar), Ben Bowers (drums).

Blind Haze are makers of high-octane, gloriously scuzzy and cathartic rock n’ roll that’s completely trimmed of unnecessary gimmicks and frills. Born from a penchant for bands including Budgie, Tank, Venom and their fellow power trios Motörhead and ZZ Top, the lean music they concoct contains overt nods to all these metal and rock greats, yet, imbued with their own personality, it never sounds derivative or hackneyed.

Formed four years ago in Leeds by their sole original member Robert 'Conan' Threapleton together with drummer Jason Hope and guitarist Joe Clements, Blind Haze unleashed their debut EP ‘The Quick or the Damned’ in 2015 and landed a coveted slot at the UK’s heaviest heavy metal festival Bloodstock Open Air that summer. Following a further line-up change in 2016 (Joe Clements was replaced by John Nicholson), they released down the brilliantly monikered ‘The Bastard EP’ in July 2017 that preceded another performance at Bloodstock.

Reborn once again with another new line-up consisting of Nicky Jefferson on guitar and Ben Bowers on drums alongside mainstay Conan, the trio kicked off 2018 by laying down a blistering new song called ‘Snow Queen’ – packed with chugging riffs, guttural vocals from Conan and mystical lyrics about being entrapped by the spell of a woman, it serves as a tantalising taster for the trio’s debut album that they hope to release later this year.
