Nikki appeared on Wyatt’s show on Planet Rock last Friday (22nd March) to promote the release of The Dirt on Netflix when the conversation moved onto Queen’s blockbuster, Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Explaining that Roger personally contacted him after seeing an advance screening of The Dirt, Nikki said: “I got an email from Roger Taylor a couple of weeks ago and he said ‘I went to a private screening of the film and I know how hard it is to make a movie because (Queen) have been trying for over 10 years as well.’

“He said ‘it’s an amazing movie, it’s honest and I really wish you guys good luck with that’. That meant a lot to me because Queen was such a big influence for me.”

Asked by Wyatt why The Dirt was released on Netflix release instead of the big screen like Bohemian Rhapsody, Nikki replied: “Well, there’s multiple reasons. One is (that) Netflix understood the story and the purpose of the story and they didn’t want us to castrate it.

“They wanted the movie that we made. It was very important for them, which meant a lot to us because we didn’t want to have to deal with this, day in, day out – what we could put in the film and not put in the film – because we have a story to tell.”

Nikki Sixx also took to Twitter over the weekend to defend The Dirt after it received lukewarm reviews from critics.

On review aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, The Dirt has a 45% approval rating from critics – making it ‘Rotten’ – but fans on the site have deemed it ‘Fresh’ with 86% saying they liked it.

Nikki said on Twitter: “The album is number one. The fans are going crazy over The Dirt. The critics hate it.”

He later added: “I’ve seen the movie multiple times over the course of the team putting it together. I have to say, after you’ve seen it at least once, watch it again and notice everything in the background. It’s a whole other layer that’s really enjoyable.”
