Nikki Sixx announces his ‘unofficial retirement’ from touring
Sixx:AM and ex-Mötley Crüe star Nikki Sixx has quit touring for the foreseeable future.
In a post on his Facebook page this morning, Nikki told his fans that after four decades of playing gigs around the globe he has “no immediate tour plans”. However, despite this, Nikki maintains he’s as busy as ever.
He wrote: “For those of you asking, Ive been playing in bands and touring the world for 40 years. I have no immediate tour plans unless I get a wild hair up my ass or something or somebody really inspirational comes along.
“Since I’ve been home I’ve just been writing music non-stop, recording with other artists, taking vocal, bass and guitar lessons and focusing on photography. Money has never been and isn't a driving force for me. Let the chips fall where they fall.
“So I guess I'm unofficially retired or maybe just expired at this time. Nice to give 100% of my time to my wife and kids.”
He continued: “Got a couple Sixx:AM albums coming out soon and 1 book this year… I got 2 books in the works and I am in talk's to develop a TV show (not reality) as well as The Dirt for Netflix and The Heroin Diaries Play. YUP,I AM RETIRED. HAHA”
Nikki underwent hip replacement surgery back in April after part of his hip turned into “complete mush” from the toils of his lifestyle.
He later described opting to go under the knife as the best decision he could have made, telling listeners of his Sixx Sense podcast: “For anybody out there that has to go through a surgery like this, it’s probably the best thing you’ll ever do for yourself, ’cause I’m really feeling a lot better than I was before I went in for surgery.”
Nikki performed for the last time with Mötley Crüe on 31st December 2015 on the final date of their swansong Final Tour at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
After touring throughout 2016, Sixx:AM have only played one solitary live show this year at the Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas back in March.
