New Species Of Frog Named After Ozzy Osbourne
Dendropsophus ozzyi has a 'bat-like' call.
A new species of frog, discovered in the Brazilian Amazon, has been named after Ozzy Osbourne.
A team of scientists discovered 21 specimens of the frog during a month-long expedition in Amazonas.
The frog has been named Dendropsophus ozzyi, honouring the Prince of Darkness and the infamous bat-biting incident due to its 'bat-like' call.
One of the scientists on the expedition, Pedro Peloso, told National Geographic: "As soon as I heard its call, I knew it was a new species. I had never heard anything like it.”
Peloso explained that the name came later, when the team returned to the laboratory: "We kept talking about the 'bat frog,' which led to us talking about being fans of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath."
Meanwhile Ozzy himself has been keeping busy, receiving the Global Icon award from Slash at last weekend's MTV European Music Awards and being confirmed to appear in a short run of new episodes of 'The Osbournes'.
“As soon as I heard its call, I knew it was a new species. I had never heard anything like it.”
